Professor Katie Maddock

Professor Katie Maddock

I became a member of the NSMI in August 2019 after being approached to see if I would like to become a member of Council for the NSMI.  When I found out more about the history of the Institute and its aims for the local population, I was delighted to join Council and to help shape the future of the Institute.  I am currently also a member of the Membership, and Finance and General Purpose sub-committees of Council.

As a registered pharmacist of nearly 30 years standing, and now Head of School of Pharmacy and Bioengineering at Keele University, I wish to broaden the reach of the Institute beyond its traditional medical and dental origins.  Allied health professions contribute much to the health of the local community and have a real impact on people’s lives.

I’m passionate about ensuring that the Institute, as a Charity, can continue its work funding incredibly valuable, local health research.  Currently, medical students are beneficiaries of some of this support, which is fantastic, but I am working to include students from nursing and midwifery, pharmacy, physiotherapy, and radiology in the future.

I have many eclectic interests outside my work as a pharmacist.  These include reading, knitting, many different sports, archaeology, and history.  Alongside this I have dogs that need walking twice a day!
