Bryan Carnes MBE was elected President of NSMI in 2013, having previously served as a lay member of Council.

Bryan was formerly CEO of the North Staffordshire Chamber, a position he held for 29 years until his retirement in 2012. During his time at the Chamber, membership grew fourfold, and it established a national reputation for lobbying and representation, for assisting new businesses, and for promoting international trade.

Bryan served as a Director of the national Association of British Chambers of Commerce, who presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000. He also served on many local business support groups, including Staffordshire Training & Enterprise Council and the Staffordshire Business Link.

From 1992-98 Bryan served as Chair of Governors at Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College, and was later a member of Keele University’s Appointments Committee.

He is also the current Chair of Trustees at the New Vic Theatre, where he has been a Board member for well over a decade.

Outside of work, Bryan is a member of Newcastle Golf Club. He is also a member of Audley Cricket Club, where he has also served as both President and Chairman.

Bryan is proud to have been awarded an MBE in 2010 in recognition of his service to business, and an Honorary Doctorate from Keele University the following year for services to business and the general community of North Staffordshire.
